Note: the two series are identical, choose either of them for your convenience.

This course is designed to expose students who have little to no experience to the world of programming. Students will learn the basics of block coding using Scratch by making fun and interactive projects and games.

This will be a free 3-session (75 minutes each) synchronous online course. Each session will start off with warmups of concepts that will be used in the final project of the class.

Course Overview

Day 1

Concepts learned:

  • Sprites
  • Backdrops
  • Simple movements
  • Loops

Project: Chicken in Space

Homework: Add new features to the game (e.g. more planets, backdrops, etc.)

Day 2

Concepts learned:

  • Controlling using arrow keys
  • Costumes
  • Sounds
  • Broadcasting

Project: Catch the Star!

Day 3

Concepts learned:

  • Variables
  • More complex use of loops
